Doug Flutie, who will be looking for a job if the United States Football League goes out of business, watched the New England Patriots practice at Smithfield, R.I., but Patriot Coach Raymond Berry said his team is set at quarterback.
The Patriots already have Tony Eason, Steve Grogan and Tom Ramsey.
Flutie, the former Boston College quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner, is on the roster of the USFL’s New Jersey Generals but has said he wouldn’t mind playing for the Patriots if the USFL folds after losing its antitrust lawsuit to the NFL.
“I’m just looking for a team,” said Flutie, whose NFL rights are held by the Rams. Asked where he might be in six weeks, Flutie said: “If I had to guess, I’d say in L.A.”
