A 2 1/2-year-old Los Angeles girl apparently suffocated inside an abandoned refrigerator behind her apartment building on Budlong Avenue, police said. Miera Patricia Avalos had been playing with other children before she and her 4-year-old brother were reported missing. Police were called and the girl’s body was found at about 7:30 p.m. Her brother was not injured. It is a misdemeanor to leave a refrigerator or freezer in a public area without removing the doors.
