BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Authorities today halted the search for two climbers missing in a mountain avalanche, saying that the sun-warmed slope had become too dangerous for rescue workers.
Two avalanche survivors were found Sunday morning on Mt. Baker by Canadian mountain climbers, near where six people died in an avalanche in 1939. Whatcom County Emergency Services Coordinator Jan Leonardo said a decision to continue the search would be made later, based on the rescue team’s evaluation of weather conditions.
