Stewards at the Saratoga, N.Y., race track have to file a report today with the New York State Racing and Wagering Board because they disqualified a winning horse, then reinstated him after the race was posted as official.
The stewards corrected their error for the purposes of distributing purse money, but wagering on the winning horse, Allumeuse, in Saturday’s second race was wiped away. Since Allumeuse, which survived a collision in the stretch, was declared the winner after the “official” sign was posted, state law prohibits changes in the betting payoff.
Meanwhile, in Sunday’s feature race at Saratoga, Lac Ouimet, with Eddie Maple riding, led wire-to-wire to score an easy 8 1/2-length victory in the $115,600 Jim Dandy Stakes. Over the 1 1/8-mile distance, Lac Ouimet ran in 1:48 and earned $69,360.
