The City Council is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of an arsonist who set fire to six residential garages in 38 minutes in downtown Monrovia on Tuesday, then traveled to Arcadia, setting two fires there.
Fire Chief Mark Foote said that although there is no description of the arsonist, the person is believed to be the same one who committed a similar series of crimes in January.
There were no injuries in the fires that began at 1:08 p.m., but damage caused by one fire, in which a boat and car were destroyed, is estimated at $25,000. Damage to a second garage was $7,000 and at a third $1,000. Damage in the other fires was minor.
