MORGANTON, N.C. — Margaret Bell Ervin, widow of U.S. Sen. Sam Ervin Jr., died Thursday at a hospital after several weeks of declining health. She was 87. Ervin, a North Carolina Democrat who gained international attention as chairman of the Senate Watergate committee in 1973, died in April, 1985.
