Amtrak Postman Held in $2.7 Million in Thefts

WASHINGTON — Postal authorities here have arrested one of several employees suspected of stealing $2.7 million worth of registered mail from Amtrak shipments bound for New York, it was reported Friday.
Louis P. Scott, 46, of Washington, a 27-year Postal Service veteran, was charged Thursday with possession of $200,000 in negotiable bonds, the Washington Post reported. The arrest was the first disclosure of an investigation into 19 thefts over the last two years of registered pouches and postage stamp cartons aboard mail trains.
