Hawthorne : Residential Parking

The City Council approved the drafting of an ordinance proposed by Councilwoman Ginny McGinnis Lambert that would address complaints by residents who say they cannot find parking spaces in front of their homes.
The proposed ordinance would provide marked spaces of the type usually found only in commercial areas. City Manager R. Kenneth Jue said the city would provide the markings in neighborhoods where a majority of residents requested it.
Jue said the parking problems exist because single vehicles often take up curbside parking that could accommodate two cars. This is particularly troublesome where parking is prohibited on one side of a street, he said.
