Mubarak, Peres Open Summit

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt — The leaders of Egypt and Israel met today for the first time in five years in a bid to “reach a meeting of minds” on warming the cool peace that has prevailed between their countries.
President Hosni Mubarak and Prime Minister Shimon Peres closeted themselves without aides at the presidential palace for an afternoon meeting that one official said opened in “a very friendly and cordial atmosphere.”
