When you see the new late night “Dick Cavett Show” beginning Sept. 23 (locally on KABC, time not set yet), you may think you’re seeing “The PMK Show.” The public relations firm has placed four clients as guests on the first three tapings.
It’s normal for Hollywood PR firms to stack shows or events (whenever they find a sympathetic booker) from their client lists.
In this case: PMK Client Lily Tomlin is “likely” for show No. 1, with client Tom Hanks already firm. Next comes a “director’s show,” featuring client Doris Dorrie (German director of “Men . . . “) and Alan Pakula (PMK is handling Pakula’s currently shooting “Orphans”), plus non-PMKers Sydney Pollack, Sidney Lumet and Ivan Reitman. Then you’ll see client Richard Gere on the third outing.
Client Goldie Hawn is being “considered” for another show, “but that’s about it” for PMK-pitched guests, said exec producer John Gilroy, who quipped, “I think they’ll run out of clients before we run out of shows.”
Plenty of non-PMKers will turn up soon, he added, like Miles Davis and Tony Danza.
It probably didn’t hurt that PMK also reps . . . Dick Cavett.
