The Sierra Club of California endorsed the reelection of Democratic Sen. Alan Cranston. Bob Hattoy, spokesman for the 140,000-member environmental group, said at a press conference on the Santa Monica Pier that Cranston would probably have received the endorsement in any case because of his long record of supporting parks and wilderness areas and opposing most offshore drilling. But Hattoy said Cranston’s Republican opponent, Los Altos Rep. Ed Zschau, made the decision easy when he recently came out against Proposition 65, the anti-toxics initiative that Cranston and the Sierra Club support.
