Rose Flag to Adorn Vietnam Memorial

WASHINGTON — A U.S. flag of 58,113 roses, one for each name of the dead and missing on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, will be placed at the monument in observance of Veterans Day, Sens. John W. Warner (R-Va.) and John Kerry (D-Mass.) said Monday.
The idea for the project, called “A Rose of Remembrance,” came from a Burke, Va., woman who said she had been inspired by watching people put flowers at the memorial.
Angelo Bonita, a florist who donated his firm’s time to help design and build the rose flag, said the flowers--white and red roses and blue ‘bachelor buttons”--would cost more than $18,000. Several companies donated money to help pay for the project.
