The World : Bomb Kills Officer in Spain
A car bomb exploded outside a police station in downtown Barcelona, Spain, killing one policeman and badly injuring at least six other people. No group claimed responsibility, but officials said the bomb appeared to be the work of Terra Lliure, a Catalonian separatist group opposed to Barcelona’s bid for the 1992 Summer Olympics. The International Olympic Committee, now meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, is expected to announce its choice for the 1992 games on Friday. The separatists, who want independence for four Catalonian provinces in northeastern Spain, see the Olympics as a waste of money.
