World Peace Crusade to Hold Bowl Finale

“Million Minutes for Peace,” a crusade to promote world peace through prayer, concludes today with celebrations worldwide, including one at the Hollywood Bowl.
The free ceremony at 2 p.m. in the bowl will feature actor Dennis Weaver, singer Della Reese and a variety of musical groups, including the International Children’s Choir. Three-thousand balloons with peace messages attached and hundreds of white birds will be released during the ceremony.
Throughout the monthlong campaign, crusade participants signed pledges to spend one to 30 minutes thinking about peace, spokesman Norma Foster said. The group expects to have more than 200 million pledges from 58 countries when all the tallies are in and said it has 900,000 pledges from the Los Angeles area.
The idea was conceived two years ago by schoolchildren in Australia and was planned for this year to coincide with the U.N. International Year of Peace. U.S. sponsors include the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual Organization, Child Development Foundation, Human Unity Institute and Planetary Citizens.
