Golf Roundup : Nakajima Is Leading Tway and Langer by Two Strokes

Japan’s Tsuneyuki Nakajima shot a six-under-par 66 Saturday to take the individual lead in the third round of the $900,000 World Championship of Golf at Inagi, Japan.

Nakajima has a 54-hole total of 202. Second-round leaders Bob Tway and West German Bernhard Langer shot 70s and were tied for second place at 204.

In team play, Japan beat the United States, 7-5, and Europe downed Australia-New Zealand, 7-5. In the Japanese win, Masashi Ozaki beat Dan Pohl, 69-71; Nobumitsu Yuhara beat Calvin Peete, 70-72, and Nakajima beat Tway, 66-70. Naomichi Ozaki and Hal Sutton tied at 70-70. Payne Stewart beat Koichi Suzuki, 68-71, and John Mahaffey beat Tateo Ozaki, 69-73.

Taiwan’s Tu Ai-yu shot a three-under-par 69 for a 137 total and a three-stroke lead over Sandra Palmer (71) after two rounds of the $300,000 Mazda Japan tournament, the final event on this year’s LPGA Tour, at Yoshikawa, Japan.

Don January shot a seven-under-par 65 for a 136 and a one-shot lead over opening-round leader Bob Charles (71) in the $250,000 Las Vegas Senior tournament.

Ed Dougherty, a Pennsylvania assistant pro, shot a one-under-par 71, his third consecutive subpar round over the PGA West Arnold Palmer Course, to take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the $100,000 Wilson/PGA Club Professional tournament at La Quinta. He had a 209 total.
