Two inmates escaped from the Descanso honor camp Tuesday morning, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
Sheriff’s deputies responding to an alarm at 2:35 a.m. found that the inmates climbed over a blanket they had thrown on top of the barbed-wire perimeter fence. A subsequent search of the dormitory revealed two crude dummies in the inmates’ beds.
The two escapees were identified as David Hines, 18, who was serving time for auto theft, and Leon R. Noland, 24, who was serving time for possessing a falsified driver’s license.
Sheriff’s deputies, canine units and a sheriff’s helicopter searched unsuccessfully for the escapees during the night.
