Los Alamitos : Fireworks Ban May Be Made Final Dec. 11
- Share via
A proposal to ban the sale and use of “safe and sane” fireworks in Los Alamitos will be decided Dec. 11 by the City Council.
The council voted unanimously for the ban at its Nov. 24 meeting. If passed on a second reading, the measure would go into effect in 30 days.
A city survey in August showed that 63% of the city’s residents opposed the sale and use of fireworks, according to Gerard Goedhart, director of administrative services.
“There is nothing dramatic to point to,” Goedhart said. “We haven’t had a real major fire or anything like that. But the City Council feels that sentiment of the community is against fireworks.”
Los Alamitos would become the sixth city in the county to ban fireworks this year, Goedhart said.
