‘Courageous Action’ of Anaya

The action of out-going, lame-duck New Mexico Gov. Anaya to commute 100% of the death sentences on his state’s Death Row to life imprisonment is an incredible slap in the face to the voters of New Mexico who approve of the death penalty by a wide margin. He seems to be saying they can do nothing to him, and he can act without regard to the opinion of those he was elected by. One can only hope that those same voters will find a way to commute his gubernatorial pension by 100%.
