Dwight Gooden, the New York Met pitcher who was arrested in Tampa, Fla., on Dec. 13 on charges that included battery on a police officer, was stopped there a year ago and had his car searched for drugs, according to a report in the Tampa Tribune.

On Dec. 17, 1985, Tampa police, acting on a tip, stopped Gooden. The search produced $4,000 in cash, a legally holstered pistol, baking soda and some empty and half-empty beer cans. Gooden’s attorney said he was aware of the year-old incident and said that it “was one of the things Dwight talked about being harassed.”
