A 29-year-old robber from Tulare County was stabbed to death in the exercise yard of Folsom Prison, the prison’s first fatal stabbing of 1987. Gonzalo Romero, who was serving a six-year sentence, was knifed in the neck by an unknown assailant, prison spokesman Lt. Mike Yarborough said. Romero died at University Medical Center in Sacramento. Four other prisoners have been wounded in stabbings so far this year. Last year there were 169 stabbings, 13 of them fatal. Yarborough said two prison-made weapons were found at the scene. One was on the ground and the other in Romero’s hand. There were no suspects.
