The Senator From Delaware Seems to Be Bidin’ His Time

Just when Washington insiders thought he was prepared to announce his presidential exploratory committee, Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) is telling supporters he might take his hat out of the ring. Look for an announcement within the next week on Biden’s bid.

MORE STARS THAN BELIEVABLE--The late Stan Kamen--and his dream of building the Tel Aviv Cinematheque--will be honored Jan. 27. And the plan for a center for the film and entertainment arts in Israel will benefit from the Century Plaza event. Goldie Hawn is the night’s honoree--with Barbra Streisand and Warren Beatty co-chairing. Beatty emcees with Chevy Chase, and Gregory Peck and Walter Matthau are already set for part of the program. And those are enough brand names to produce a sellout very quickly--as if the memory of Kamen wasn’t enough on its own.

OTHER PLACES, OTHER EVENTS--Yes, there is life outside the Westside. The Regents Ball supporting Valley Presbyterian Hospital Foundation is on for the second year Feb. 28 at the Sheraton-Premiere. Monte Hall is emceeing, while John Davidson and his orchestra will perform. Tom Selleck (his dad Robert is on the board) will send his regards via videotape. . . . The Auxiliary of Casa Colina Centers for Rehabilitation in Pomona holds its “10 Gallon Gala” Feb. 7 at Red Hill Country Club, Rancho Cucamonga. . . . Also Feb. 7 the San Fernando Valley Chapter of the Links honors Ray Charles with its Top Hat Award. It’s at the Sheraton-Premiere, to be chaired by Michele Minnis and Billie Newcombe.

MOODY UNBLUES--One would think George F. Moody would be busy enough just being president of Security Pacific Corp. and president and CEO of Security Pacific National Bank. But wait--Moody, a trustee of the U.S. Olympic Foundation, Korean Consul General Ki Soo Kim and Canadian Consul General Joan Price Winser join with 20 “Past, Present and Future” Olympians at a reception honoring John F. Grundhofer. The honoree, a vice chairman of Wells Fargo Bank, has recently been appointed U.S. Olympic Committee Chair for Southern California, and gets his just due at a reception Jan. 29. . . . Moody is also chairing the March 29 John Douglas French dinner at the Century Plaza. Last year’s event netted more than $425,000 for Alzheimer’s research. Opera diva Dorothy Kirsten French set up the foundation in 1983 in the name of her husband, a distinguished neurosurgeon and former director of the UCLA Brain Research Institute who is now himself a victim of Alzheimer’s disease.
