Quints Born in Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee’s first quintuplets, three boys and two girls born Tuesday night at the Vanderbilt Medical Center, were in serious but stable condition today, hospital officials said.

“The babies are all alive and in good condition,” said Dr. Frank Boehm, who delivered the quintuplets. The quints were three months premature. Boehm said that the mother, Darlene Hawkins, 25, was conscious throughout the natural delivery and that her husband, James, 28, was present.
