“Platoon” continued its remarkable box-office pace during its second weekend in wide national release, taking in $8.2 million from 856 theaters and running its total to $38.3 million. (As if it needed one, the tough and controversial Vietnam combat film figures to get a major box-office boost Wednesday when the 1986 Academy Award nominations are announced. “Platoon,” the inside favorite to dominate the Oscars, is expected to receive at least seven nominations, perhaps as many as 11.) Arthur Hiller’s “Outrageous Fortune” dropped only 15% during its second weekend, with a gross of $5.4 million. According to figures collected by Exhibitor Relations Co., Bob Rafelson’s “Black Widow” led the weekend’s new releases, with $3.7 million. Paul Schrader’s “Light of Day” was right behind with $3.5 million. “From the Hip,” a courtroom comedy starring Judd Nelson, did $2.8 million and Arthur Penn’s “Dead of Winter” followed its prophetic title to a bleak $970,000 opening weekend gross.
