SAN LUIS OBISPO — Freshman Niki Bracken scored 25 points as the Cal Poly Pomona women’s basketball team won the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. tournament title Saturday night with a convincing 80-46 victory over Cal State Northridge.
The Broncos, defending conference and NCAA champions, decided the issue almost immediately, jumping out to a 13-1 lead. Pomona led, 33-19, at the half.
Said Northridge Coach Leslie Milke: “I’m depressed. They paralyzed us. We just never got rolling. It was tough.”
Marcine Edmonds scored 18 points in support of Bracken. Pomona’s Debra Larsen was named the tournament’s most valuable player after she grabbed 13 rebounds and scored 6 points in the title game.
The Matadors were led by Kathleen Dixon and Kristen Brinkema with 10 points each. Their star player, Denise Sitton, was held to 9 points.
