College Roundup : UCI Men Defeat Trinity in Tennis

Trevor Kronemann upset No. 11-ranked Mauricio Silva 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 Saturday, to lead the UC Irvine men’s tennis team to an 8-1 victory over Trinity at the Miami Invitational at Miami University. Kronemann was his fifth straight match of the season.

Irvine’s No. 1 singles player, Mark Kaplan, raised his season record to 15-5 with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Fanie Reinach . In doubles, Kaplan and Kronemann defeated Reinach and Silva, 6-3, 6-3.

UC Irvine (8-7) plays No. 13-ranked Minnesota today at 8:30 a.m. and No. 10-ranked Miami Monday at 12:30 p.m.

In women’s tennis:

UC Irvine’s women’s tennis team split a pair of matches at Las Vegas, defeating Washington, 9-0, and losing to Colorado, 6-3.

Stephanie Rhorer led the Anteaters over Washington, beating Erin Majury in No.1 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Irvine’s Cortney Weichsel also defeated Chris Wagner 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

In the second match, Irvine’s No.3 doubles team of Weichsel and Debbie Strombeck defeated Colorado’s Susie Osterland and Maureen Delaney 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

In women’s softball:

UC Riverside 4-0, Chapman 3-5--The Panthers split a doubleheader in California Collegiate Athletic Assn. play at Orange’s Hart Park. UC Riverside (1-1, 3-6) overcame a 2-1 deficit in the first game and scored the winning run in the eleventh inning. In the second game, Diane Blankenship pitched a shutout and allowed only four hits for Chapman (1-1, 5-8).
