A soldier from Ft. Carson, Colo., was killed when the armored personnel carrier he was driving collided with a tank, a spokesman for the U.S. Army National Training Center at Ft. Irwin said. Spec. 4 Robert L. Douglas Jr., 25, died of head injuries suffered when he struck the tank’s gun, Sgt. Robert Nettles said. The accident occurred in the southeast portion of the 1,000-square-mile installation in the Mojave Desert. Douglas was pronounced dead at the scene. He was assigned to the 1st Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Carson and was taking part in field exercises. The accident remained under investigation, Nettles said.
