Supports Lifeguards

Regarding the article “Lifeguards Seek Broader Powers to Police Municipal Beaches” (March 8), I, as a teen of San Diego, fully approve of such a plan.
The new legislation would provide legality to the work the lifeguards already do. It would also allow them to remove unattended vessels from public waterways, close beaches in case of emergency and designate lifeguards as emergency safety personnel. State lifeguards have achieved this status on Coronado’s Silver Strand and in North County.
Why do we delay in granting these powers to the lifeguards of the busiest beaches in San Diego?
