The Golden Gate Bridge District board of directors voted to cancel a free concert scheduled to coincide with the May 24 celebration of the span’s 50th anniversary. The vote came two days after promoter Bill Graham’s decision to pull out of the concert which was to feature several celebrity performers. Graham and bridge officials were unable to agree on the time the bridge would need to be closed during the celebration. The vote leaves the celebration with only four events: a dawn bridge walk, a parade of ships and old cars, a fireworks show and the illumination of the bridge towers. Only the illumination is a certainty; the remainder still are being discussed.
