Jurors in the Sagon Penn retrial Thursday were shown a graphic color videotape of the body of Police Agent Thomas Riggs at the scene of the incident in Encanto.

The 15-minute videotape made by San Diego police was not shown in Penn’s first trial because investigators had lost it. It was not discovered until September.

Homicide Detective Gil Padillo narrated the tape, which showed the location of Riggs, the clothing taken off wounded Agent Donovan Jacobs, and other items in the driveway on Brooklyn Street where the March 31, 1985, drama occurred.

Padillo, the retrial’s 28th witness, will continue his testimony today about various segments of the tape, which will be replayed for the San Diego Superior Court jury.

Other witnesses Thursday included Detective David Ayers and evidence technician Randy Gibson regarding items of evidence found at the scene.

Penn, 25, is charged with manslaughter, attempted murder, attempted manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon. He was acquitted of murder in his first trial last year.
