Where Has Male Chivalry Gone?
In response to the writer who wonders what happened to male chivalry: It is not only unfashionable these days, it is downright illegal. Male chivalry, after all, is nothing more than another name for male chauvinism--ugly old sexism. It is the singling out of women for special treatment solely because of their gender.
Women have made it vocally, and sometimes violently, clear in recent years that they demand to be treated to all the advantages traditionally enjoyed by men. But setting aside all of the special little handicaps of being a woman also entails setting aside all of the special little privileges. If one wants to be treated just as well as everybody else, one must also expect to be treated just as badly.
