3rd Marine Likely to Be Charged

WASHINGTON — A third Marine probably will be charged with espionage in connection with the sex-for-secrets scandal at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, the Pentagon said today.
Spokesman Bob Sims said Sgt. John Weirick, 26, of Eureka, Calif., will be brought to the Marine base in Quantico, Va., “in the next week or 10 days, and a subsequent Article 32 investigation will be held.” Weirick has been held in Camp Pendleton, Calif., only on suspicion of espionage. He would have to be charged with espionage before an Article 32 proceeding, the military equivalent of a grand jury proceeding, can be held.
