The Game and Newsplay Was Unfair

The May 1 sports section of The Times contained an article about a girls softball game between Viewpoint School and Simi Lutheran High School. Your headline read, “Viewpoint No Match for Simi Lutheran, 62-1.”
My colleagues, students, and I were distressed to see this lopsided score given such notoriety in your paper. Many of our players this year are inexperienced 9th- and 10th-grade girls who have done reasonably well. Your article serves only to embarrass our athletes. We encourage all students at Viewpoint to join a team regardless of their ability or experience with a sport. To highlight such an unfortunate game damages the morale of young athletes. It borders on sensationalism.
