ROME, Ga. — It was all in fun when 10 golfers using only one club apiece participated in a nine-hole event called “The Putters.”
The prize was not a green jacket; it was an orange sweater.
Don Briscar, organizer of the spoof on the Masters tournament, said the players used only a putter over the Green Acres Country Club.
The winner was Jerry Argo, the Green Acres’ golf pro, who shot a 43.
“I never would have believed I would see so many 200-yard drives with a putter,” Briscar said. “And most of the golfers acted so natural it was like that was the way they always golfed.”
