Louise Taylor has been appointed assistant superintendent for personnel by the Monrovia Unified School District Board of Education. Taylor previously served as personnel services director and coordinator of pupil services for the district. Taylor received an undergraduate degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz, a graduate degree from Loyola University and a doctorate from USC.

Jane Feldstein of Sierra Madre has been elected president of Las Voluntarias y Ayudantes, a volunteer group that supports the Los Angeles State and County Arboretum in Arcadia. Feldstein is a special education teacher in the Arcadia Unified School District. Jane Kaler and Betty Watson were elected vice presidents.

Actress Tenaya of Walnut has been selected by Supervisor Pete Schabarum to serve on the Los Angeles City-County Native American Indian Commission. The commission will promote and develop programs to serve urban American Indians and American Indian organizations.

Assemblywoman Sally Tanner (D-El Monte) has been named Legislator of the Year by the California Assn. of the Physically Handicapped. Tanner was honored by the association for her legislative efforts on behalf of the physically handicapped.

John D. Smith of Arcadia has been appointed to the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation Board of Directors. The 10-member board directs the policy of the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation, which operates programs and support services at the college. Smith is studying agricultural management at the college.

Dr. Bruce D. Sindel of Covina has been elected a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. The academy is made up of 31,000 pediatricians throughout North, Central and South America.

Dr. Brian E. Henderson of San Marino has been awarded the Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Foundation Award for his work in cancer epidemiology. The award includes a $1,000 honorarium. Henderson is director of the USC Comprehensive Cancer Center and chairman of the preventive medicine department at the USC School of Medicine. Henderson has served as an epidemiology consultant to the People’s Republic of China and as a member of the Scientific Council of the International Agency for Cancer Research in Lyons, France.

Erwin N. Jones had been appointed to the board of directors of the Southern California Rapid Transit District by Supervisor Pete Schabarum. Jones is a retired superintendent of the Covina-Valley Unified School District.

Theodore J. Crovello has been appointed dean of graduate studies and research at Cal State Los Angeles. Crovello previously served as chairman of the biology department at the University of Notre Dame. Crovello has conducted extensive research in Kenya on controlling mosquitoes without chemicals and protecting endangered species. Crovello received a doctorate from UC Berkeley.

F. Haynes Lindley Jr. of Santa Monica has been elected to the Claremont University Center Board of Fellows. Lindley, an attorney, received an undergraduate degree from Claremont McKenna College, a graduate degree from Claremont Graduate School and a law degree from Southwestern University School of Law. Lindley is the director of the Southern California Assn. for Philanthropy and the John Randolph Haynes and Dora Haynes Foundation.

Susan Kasten of Arcadia, has been elected president of the American Assn. of University Women, Arcadia branch. Kasten is a special education teacher in the El Monte City School District. Kasten previously served on the board of the California Assn. for Neurologically Handicapped Children.

Norman McAbee Jr., William Kenison, Pamela McMillen, Maria Del Rio Low and the Rev. Kent Lawrence, all of Pasadena, and Dr. Edward Evans of San Marino have been appointed to the Pasadena Dispensary Board of Directors at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena. The dispensary operates more than 50 specialty medical and dental care clinics.

McAbee is an area vice president for American Telephone and Telegraph. Kenison, a retired medical auditor, is a member of the long-term care committee for the United Way Task Force on Aging. McMillan is a member of Hospice and the Respite Care Coalition at the hospital. Low is an attorney in Pasadena. Lawrence is minister of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, and Evans is associate professor of clinical professor at the USC School of Medicine and a consulting hematologist for Huntington Memorial Hospital.

Richard D. Evers has been appointed principal of Royal Oak Intermediate School by the Charter Oak Unified School District. Evers previously served as assistant principal, project coordinator, student activities director and instructor in the Perris Union High School District in Riverside. Evers replaces Arthur Deming, who was promoted to director of pupil personnel services and special education.
