Grave Robbers Ask $8 Million to Return Juan Peron’s Hands

BUENOS AIRES — Grave robbers are demanding an $8-million ransom for the return of the remains of the hands they cut off the body of former Argentine President Juan Domingo Peron, an investigating judge said today.
Police sealed off Chacarita Cemetery this morning while Judge Jaime Far Suau investigated reports of the weekend grave robbery just before the July 1 anniversary of Peron’s death in 1974.
Two Peronist Party legislators, Sen. Vicent Saadi and Deputy Carlos Grosso, said they received letters from the robbers demanding $8 million for the return of the remains of Peron’s hands and other objects stolen from the crypt.
They said they each received a page from a letter written by Peron’s widow, Isabel, which had been buried with him.
