Former Anaheim fireworks manufacturer W. Patrick Moriarty made his first bid for release from Lompoc Federal Prison, where he is serving a five-year sentence for fraud and political corruption. Moriarty is eligible for parole in six months, when he will have served 20 months of his prison term, his attorney, Jan Lawrence Handzlik, said. In a parole hearing before two designated hearing examiners, Handzlik said, “We simply requested that they give full consideration to all of the factors in his case in arriving at a parole decision,” including his cooperation with the government. Moriarty has testified in the successful corruption convictions of three former politicians--former Norwalk Assemblyman Bruce E. Young, former Long Beach City Councilman James Wilson, now deceased, and former Carson Councilman Walter (Jake) Egan.
