Toll Roads in Orange County
Traffic in Los Angeles this June was the worst I have ever seen in 20 years of annual visits. The worst effect is the discourtesy, rudeness, honking, frustration and nervous strain. Los Angeles, which should have the world’s best quality of life, is driving itself crazy.
Looking at a freeway rush-hour jam, about 90% of cars carry only one person.
To reduce volume by half or more, I suggest that the entire freeway system be converted to toll roads with a substantial toll fee. Say, 20 cents per mile: two Susan B. Anthony dollars dropped into the automatic hopper at the toll gates placed across the lanes every 10 miles and at each exit lane.
Think of the scramble to fill up the car or truck with 4, 5, 6 or more riders, to divide up the toll cost!
