Rod Woodson, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ top draft pick, is in Europe to compete in track meets and may not join the team until after the 1988 Olympic Games, his agent said.
Marvin Demoff said Woodson has offered to accept the Steelers’ latest contract offer if he can sit out the 1987 season and some of the 1988 season to compete in the Olympics.
The Steelers have told Demoff that Woodson, a 110-meter high hurdler, would not be given time off next year to compete in the Summer Games, set for Sept. 17-Oct. 2, 1988, at Seoul, South Korea.
Woodson left Thursday night for Frankfurt, West Germany, to begin a month-long tour of hurdles competition in Europe, Demoff said.
