Boone Leads Team to Connie Mack Win

FARMINGTON, N.M. — Second baseman Bret Boone drove in four runs to lead San Pedro, Calif., to an 11-5 victory over Grand Rapids, Mich., in Friday night’s opening baseball game of the double-elimination Connie Mack World Series.
Boone, the son of Angel catcher Bob Boone and formerly of El Dorado High School, hit a two-run homer in the third inning and added a two-run single in the fourth.
San Pedro (30-2) will meet Lansing, Ill., in Sunday’s second round. Grand Rapids (33-10) will meet the loser of the Farmington-Puerto Rico game in a loser’s bracket contest tonight.
