Hodel’s Plan for Hetch Hetchy
What a spectacular idea of Hodel to tear down Hetch Hetchy reservoir at Yosemite and restore the land to its natural condition! True, the people of San Francisco would have to do without water, but surely that is a trivial sacrifice compared to the beauty gained for those few who travel up to that wilderness area.
While Hodel is at it, he should do one more good deed. He should prevail upon the American Indians to return the $24 paid them by Peter Minuit for the island of Manhattan. The island should then be returned to them, all of those trashy skyscrapers torn down and the island restored to its original pristine wilderness beauty. After all, a thing worth doing is worth doing well, and we well know the skills of our politicians in doing well (certainly for themselves).
