Mitek Systems Inc. reported a net loss for the third quarter ended June 30 of $516,000 on sales of $1,159,000, compared to a loss of $182,000 on sales of $968,000 over the comparable period a year ago.

On a year-to-date basis, Mitek has lost $608,000 on sales of $5,088,000, contrasted with a loss of $311,000 on sales of $2,354,000 over the same nine months last year.

Mitek, a manufacturer of highly secure computer printers for the government and other intelligence-sensitive devices, attributed the quarterly loss to its investment in research and in an expanded marketing department.
