SACRAMENTO — One man was killed and another wounded today by rifle shots fired by the lone occupant of a passing car in a busy downtown intersection, police said. The 10:20 a.m. shooting was at 8th and J streets, only three blocks from the California Capitol.
The victims, both black adult males, were on a street corner waiting for the light to change when their assailant drove up in a white Ford and shot them. Police spokesman Sgt. Bob Burns said: “We have no motive at this time. We have no idea if there was a prior confrontation or if this was a random shooting.” He said one of the three bullets struck the unidentified dead man in the head. Another struck Thomas Pruitt, 70, of Sacramento in the neck, but the wound was not critical, Burns said.
