The State : Study Warns of S.F. Bay Rise

San Francisco Bay could rise from a few inches to as much as 2 1/2 feet along some areas of the shore over the next 50 years, posing potentially serious economic and environmental problems, a report says. “Sea Level Rise: Predictions and Implications for San Francisco” says new floodgates and levees may be needed to protect vulnerable low areas of the San Francisco Peninsula, the Marin County shore and the northern edge of Contra Costa County. The $15,000 report, scheduled for public review on Jan. 7, was prepared by Moffatt & Nichol Engineers of Walnut Creek, Wetlands Research Assns. of San Rafael and the staff of the Bay Conservation and Development Commission.
