A new settlement between television mogul Ted Turner and RKO Pictures reached last week paves the way for the colorization of such classic black-and-white films as “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and “Mighty Joe Young.” RKO attorney David Gerber said the agreement, signed in U. S. District Court, allows Marina del Rey-based Color Systems Technology Inc., Turner’s preferred colorizers, to paint the films by the numbers. The out-of-court settlement partially resolved a 1986 copyright infringement suit brought by RKO against Turner.
