Local News in Brief : Van Hits Trailer in Moorpark; Driver Dies

A 42-year-old Oxnard man died when his van crashed into a truck on California 118 in Moorpark, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department reported Wednesday.
Thomas Coyne died Tuesday at Simi Adventist Hospital in Simi Valley, four hours after the 10:30 a.m. accident. All lanes of the highway were closed after the accident, authorities said.
A sheriff’s spokesman said Coyne was westbound near Nogales Avenue when he rounded a curve that was slippery from the rain, hit the trailer of an eastbound tractor-trailer, then crashed into an embankment. It took firefighters about 45 minutes to free Coyne from the wreckage, officials said.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, James Williams, 23, of Ventura, was not injured.
