Labor Groups Lost 62,000 Members in ’87

WASHINGTON — An organized labor movement that continues to represent a smaller share of the nation’s work force lost 62,000 more members in 1987, the Labor Department said today.
However, despite some slight shrinking of the wage gap in a few industries, union members continued to enjoy wages averaging $123 a week more than their non-union counterparts, the department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics said.
