Los Angeles Police Cmdr. Mark A. Kroeker, 43, has been promoted to deputy chief and Capt. Robert S. Gil, 41, was elevated to commander, making him the highest-ranking Latino in the department in the last 10 years, it was announced Friday.
Kroeker, who has a master’s degree in international public administration, has been the chief of staff for an assistant chief who oversees 8,000 employees, including patrol officers and special units. He has been with the department since 1965.
Gil most recently was the commanding officer of the Southwest Division, where he was responsible for the operation of the patrol, vice, administration and other units. The 20-year police veteran has a master’s degree in public administration.
