A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order until Thursday that prevents an anti takeover law signed by Ohio Gov. Richard Celeste from taking effect. The law was prompted by Campeau Corp.’s bid to acquire or merge with Federated Department Stores. Separately, Toronto-based Campeau cautioned that any attempt by Cincinnati-based Federated to enter into agreements with other firms would be met with a “vigorous legal challenge.” In a letter to Henry Kravis of the leveraged-buyout firm of Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co., Campeau noted that it has been “widely reported” that KKR has expressed interest in Federated.
