Erling Sunde, for eight years the principal teacher at the Royal Ballet in London, will give a master class Sunday in Costa Mesa at the Jimmie De Fore Dance Center.
UCI dance historian Olga Maynard, a longtime friend, praises Sunde as “one of the greatest living ballet masters.” He has coached many of the world’s stars, among them Margot Fonteyn, Rudolf Nureyev, Violette Verdy, Anthony Dowell and Melissa Hayden.
Sunde made his career as a dancer during the 1950s and ‘60s in Europe at the Norwegian Ballet, Western Theatre Ballet (now the Scottish National Ballet) and the Ballet de l’Etoile under Maurice Bejart. Sunde teaches in San Diego, where he has lived for the last 15 years.
Sunday’s class will begin at 10 a.m. The fee is $12. The Jimmie De Fore Dance Center is at 151 Kalmus Drive, Suite G3, Costa Mesa. For information, call (714) 241-9908.
