‘Surrogate Woman’
Korea, 1987, 95 minutes , 3 p.m . A 14th-Century yarn set in imperial Korea that echoes the modern saga of Baby M. Unable to sire an heir, a noble house entices a virginal teen-ager into surrogacy. Though the film is dramatically simple and tragic, the film makers insist on giving the story an epic mounting which overwhelms its simplicity and negates the essential cautionary tone.
